Kenny McPeek's experience in the thoroughbred business originated while still in high school when he discovered an interest in the breeding and conformation of the racehorse (click here for Yes He Ken video). Kenny began training in 1985 shortly after receiving his degree in Business Finance from the University of Kentucky. Since then he has enjoyed his career as a trainer and advisor to his many clients. Kenny has won over 1200 races, including many graded stakes at major racetracks in North America. Experienced at all levels of the sport, he has been able to convert years of studying horses, their pedigrees and conformation into an asset when attending the major thoroughbred auctions. He has found that the difference between success and failure is clearly his ability to find the best possible horses for the people he represents.
McPeek Racing specializes in selection, management and training of thoroughbred racehorses. Kenny McPeek attends all major auctions in search of top quality racing stock. He will advise you which racing prospects are most suited for your particular budget or program. His goal is to find and develop the best horses possible for you.
Prior to purchasing, Kenny will arrange to have each racing prospect properly examined by a veterinarian to help ensure your horse is a good investment. Following a purchase, arrangements will be made for its shipment to a quality farm or location. From the moment of purchase, Kenny will give you a plan of action that will give your horse the best chance for success. Once you buy a horse you are not charged for Kenny's advice. His goal will be to help you succeed as a racehorse owner.
When your horse is in Kenny's care it may be on a farm or in one of the divisions of McPeek Racing. Your expenses will depend on the location of your horse. McPeek Racing takes great pride in the daily care of your horse. We use a unique system developed from a management program called the "One Minute Manager" (Authors: Kenneth Blanchard, Ph.D. and Spencer Johnson, M.D.). You will find no other stable in America which pinpoints details of daily care like McPeek Racing.
Every item in our stable is the best quality money can buy. Because of our focus on quality hay, straw, feed, equipment, and employees, it causes our costs to be high, so our daily rates may be higher than other training stables. However, we refuse to use gimmicks to cut costs - particularly in the care of your horse or horses. If you're interested in some of the details why our quality is the best - better than the competition - check the WHY KENNY button.
Essential to a total racing experience, our staff focuses upon preparing each horse for a race at a pace that is comfortable and in the best interest of each horse as an individual. We are here for your enjoyment and will strive in every way to make your racing experience a pleasurable one.
Mcpeek Racing is willing and capable of claiming horses at most or all of the major tracks. We will claim in the $50,000 and up range. This is an area where Mcpeek Racing can excel. Kenny has a long history of improving claiming horses though horsemanship and his extensive knowledge of bloodlines. We prefer that the owner or owners select the horse and Kenny and his staff will "get the job done".
A recent success story is DARK COVE, who was claimed for $16,000 at Saratoga where he had been entered short on the dirt. His pedigree and running style shouted GRASS and he won for Kenny next out, also at Saratoga, going a mile and a 1/16th on the grass for $25,000. He scored his next 2 races in a row at Keeneland in straight allowance company also going long on the turf. He added black type at Colonial Downs running third in the Colonial Turf Club Stakes followed by a win in a starter allowance. Entered this past spring at Keeneland for $50,000, he was claimed. Under Kenny DARK COVE ran up 5 wins, a second and a third and bankrolled over $200,000.
McPeek Racing's daily rate for claiming horses is lower than our typical rates for developing young horses.
