Alan Shell: Assistant Trainer
Resides: Lexington, Ky
Alan began working for Magdalena/McPeek in 2007 as an Assistant Trainer spending the majority of his time in Florida. Currently, he is based in Lexington and is the Stable Manager for the McPeek/Magdalena horses training at Keeneland Race Course. Di, he attended The Irish National Stud course.
Growing up in Central Kentucky, Alan developed a love of horses at a young age. While earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science at the University Of Kentucky, he was exposed to many equine disciplines and breeds. After graduation in 2005, his passion for horses continued. Alan decided on a career in the Thoroughbred industry and in 2006 attended The Irish National Stud course in County, Kildare, Ireland.
During the Winter of 2009, Alan met his wife Trisha in Wellington, Florida. They were married in 2012 and are the proud parents of two lovely daughters, Taylor and Reagan.
Mike Kleier: Assistant Trainer
Resides: Paris, Ky
Michael joined Magdalena Racing more than 6 years ago. He is based in Lexington and manages the general care, veterinarian liaison, and training schedules for the horses stabled at Magdalena Farm. He has also managed McPeek divisions for horses training at Keeneland, Payson Training Center, and Oaklawn Park. Michael has trained winners at tracks throughout the Midwest including Keeneland, Kentucky Downs, Turfway, Arlington Park, and Ellis Park.
Formerly, Michael was an independent Thoroughbred trainer who also worked at Keeneland during the sales for large consignors. fHis involvement in the horse industry extends beyond Thoroughbred racing. Michael started showing and training Quarter Horses in 1979 including representing the Equestrian Team at Morehead State University, from which he holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science. He also attended Findlay University.
Growing up in Frankfort, Kentucky as the son of Thoroughbred trainer Rick Hiles, Jeff spent his the summers of his childhood traveling and working on the backside of tracks. He decided to follow his dreams of becoming a trainer in 2015, and joined the McPeek/Magdalena Team as an Assistant Trainer. Currently, he lives in Frankfort, Kentucky and spends the winter months with our stable at Oaklawn Park.
Prior to training horses, Jeff joined marines at the age of 21 and was stationed in Hawaii for four years where he was a Primary Marksmanship Instructor and obtained the rank of Sergeant. He also attended the University of Kentucky and Hawaii Pacific University studying finance.
